High fluorine grades offer higher resistance to swell inhigh octane and oxygenated fuel blends. This give superior performance inEthanol/Methanol blended gasoline. Base resistant grades offer improvedresistance to amine based oil protectants found in new transmission oils. Also, improved resistant to steam for higher temperature services
Viton is better able to withstand high temperature, whilesimultaneously retaining its good mechanical properties. Oil and chemicalresistance are also essentially unaffected by elevated temperatures. Compoundsof Viton® remain substantially elastic when exposed to laboratory air ovenageing up to 200°C or to intermittent exposures up to 300°C. Viton grades alsoresist degradation from a wider variety of chemicals and fluids – includingoils, fuels, lubricants and most mineral acids – than any other non-fluorinatedelastomer. In layman’s terms, that means it provides the best fluid resistanceof any commercial rubber. With its low permeability to such a broad range ofsubstances, Viton is known to deliver exceptionally good performance inoxygenated automotive fuels. The rugged characteristics Viton don’t stop therehowever. Because they also display good resistance to compression, even attemperatures that would make other non-fluorinated elastomers brittle. It isalso especially resistant to atmospheric oxidation, sun, climatic conditions, fungus and mould. Furthermore, Viton® has good electrical properties (in lowvoltage, low frequency applications) and low burning characteristics.
